Wow, are they usually peaceful or they can be dangerous? Maybe that is the reason why you couldn' t get nearer ;)

@ManuelaR: I've never seen one angry -- but I am afraid of them which is why I stood so far away! Many times the owners lead them around on a rope and I've seen people ride them so I don't really think they are dangerous.
